Showmakers Series - Grades 2-5

These ensembles jump into the rehearsal process with a focus on original story creation and scripted scene study. We meet each actor where they are, and build a company of skilled performers; centering bravery, imagination and truthfulness. Improvisation and theater games help stoke creativity, develop the company and the spirit of play. Taught by master teachers and performers at the top of their field, kids learn skills that will serve them the rest of their creative lives. “Our daughter has attended Child's Play NY for six years—from 5 to 11. Her week with Jocelyn has become one of her favorites all year, and she looks forward to it every summer. Jocelyn is an incredibly warm, kind, talented, and supportive mentor for the children in her program. A true gem. Our daughter is sad that she won't be going next year (she aged out!) but has learned so much through these years—confidence, passion, and how to memorize all the lines for a real play in basically four days! A tough act to follow....”
Bethany Saltman
“Our son is so well served by the camp and always loves his experience. During the week of the musical, he was living the experience, music and script in every moment. He loves all the people involved in the camp and is able to really be present. Child's Play NY creates such a safe environment for children to express their creativity and take risks - it is a wonderful opportunity and I am so appreciative that my son has had this chance to experience himself in this light. He was filled with joy and music during his week of camp and after. The songs were playing in his head and this year he was really wanting to practice his lines every free minute. He has done many theater camps/drama programs - Child's Play NY provides the warmest teachers, sweetest kids and richest experience. I think the focus on celebrating what the children bring to the production allows the certain freedom for magic to happen on stage. I am so thankful for this program and the experience it provides him.
Lisa Hinshaw
“My daughter had another amazing summer camp experience with Child's Play this summer--this was her third camp with the organization. What the kids manage to pull off in just 5 days is incredible. She's sad that she won't be able to continue with the camp after she turns 11, so I hope you consider extending it for older kids. Keep up the great work, Child's Play!”
