Acting Ensemble - Grades 6-8

In these sessions, young people are encouraged to do work as actors that is brave, specific, and nuanced. Our Acting Ensembles are for young people who are ready to hone their craft during a focused rehearsal process and learn new techniques to embody characters, investigate text and take charge of their technique. Programming is sophisticated while staying true to the Child’s Play NY ethos of imagination and individual expression. The ensemble has a live performance on the final Friday of camp.

Camp meets at 138 South Oxford Street in Fort Greene. Campers will also visit South Oxford Playground. Themes for Summer 2025 include Hogwarts School II and The Land of Oz.

Defy gravity in our Ozian themed camp! Performers will bring the land of Oz to life in improvisations, games and songs inspired by Wicked, The Wizard of Oz and The Wiz. Through theater games and improv, campers will explore the friendship between Elphaba and Galinda, create their own characters at Shiz University, improvise as Dorothy and her crew on the Yellow Brick Road. Campers will dive into iconic scripted scene work and create new material, developing acting skills and bringing these tales to life with creativity and depth. Our devised theater pieces will explore themes of bravery, acceptance and inner magic using these beloved characters.
