Parenting Resource Talk

Playful Parenting Talk

$0

Facilitated by Kristin Brady (Director, Cobble Hill Playschool) and Jocelyn Greene (Executive Director, Child’s Play NY Theater)
Thursday, May 18 at 7p at Cobble Hill Playschool.

Join Jocelyn and Kristin for a boost of inspiration for ways we can support open-ended and child-centered play at home. We’ll discuss how play is developmentally valuable, the many ways that children learn through play and offer suggestions for games that support social-emotional skills and executive function. Get resources for how to keep your children’s imagination flowing, and a “playlist” suggestion for screen-free indoor games and socially distant games for playdates. Come with your parenting challenges and let’s see how the use of play can help us – and our kids – thrive!

This talk is geared for parents with 3-6 year-olds, but all are welcome!

Kristin Brady is the Director of Cobble Hill Playschool, a play-based preschool serving the Brooklyn community for almost 50 years. Kristin holds a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education from Hunter College and a Bachelor’s Degree from Stanford University, where she was first introduced to the benefits of learning through play as a student teacher at the on-campus nursery school. Kristin strongly believes that play is essential in early childhood and has sneaking suspicions that play is critical for the health and wellness of grown-ups, too! Her current interests lie in exploring the links between open ended play and the development of executive function.

Jocelyn Greene is a theater-arts educator and the founder of Child’s Play NY a drama program for children she founded in 2009. She has worked extensively in schools, creating curriculum for educators to use theater activities as a teaching tool. For fellow parents, she created Child’s Play in Action; guides and videos to support at-home play. Her writing/games are featured on Mount Sinai Parenting, Maisonette, Red Tricycle. The company has been recognized by Backstage, Time Out NY Kids and NY Family Magazine as a top theater-arts program. Jocelyn has a Masters Degree in Acting from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and lives with her husband and 10-year-old son in Brooklyn.
